OM-D Firmware 1.5
October 3, 2012 at 12:08 Olympus published yesterday a new update for OM-D body. Olympus Japanese website tells what´s new:
Table from http://www.olympus.co.jp/en/support/imsg/digicamera/download/software/firm/omd/em5.html
The most important correction: while shooting video, the IS in body works now with any lens you can attach to the body with adapter. Table speaks about OM lenses but that is just Olympus being careful. User must set the focal length in menu for lenses without electric contacts (in adapter), though.
Sound of gyros practically disappeared as promised. The true meaning of "improved sleep recovery" will be seen when experience is gathered.
Firmware update is started by downloading the latest updater from localised Olympus web sites or http://www.olympus.co.jp/en/support/imsg/digicamera/download/software/
What you need is Olympus Digital Camera Updater (Sep. 2012). After installing updater and launching it, the software tells what to do. Depending on firmware in camera there might be a few update rounds until version 1.5 becomes installed.

I updated with the updater that came with my E-M5. No problem.
Pekka have you notice any performance increase at high ISO after you updated it?
Actually I have not used OM-D almost at all since update. Been working on previous material for printing. Is there something worth looking into?

If you still own Panasonic 20mm f1.7, you could try to see if banding is reduced at some ISO levels. I don't have that lens so I couldn't try it. I just read from forums http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/thread/3279266
There is other thread about improved high iso performance http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/thread/3278974
Olympus didn't list that their FW 1.5 update included ISO performance tweaks. So I find this interesting.
I have asked Olympus about Lumix 20mm issues. No answer so far, and I don't know if there will be any, because companies very seldom officially comment issues with other brands.
I have also not been too interested in any issues at ISOs 12800 and 25600 because the quality there is not good enough for my needs. I have only occasionally tried and I don't know if any of those images have any banding to be used as reference. I will check IF I have time for it.
I will shoot my test target with 60mm Macro this week and it gives me opportunity to compare higher ISOs with my earlier test. I shoot only RAW and don´t expect any change there. Maybe, just maybe as I don´t know, Olympus has made some minor changes in jpeg processing and those are seen by some people?
